The Roborigger product was originally developed by TENSA Equipment and Roborigger products are now in a separate entity with external investors (including TENSA Equipment as a major shareholder), called Roborigger Pty Ltd. TENSA Equipment has successfully been building fully certified lifting and drilling equipment for the global offshore oil and gas industry for over 10 years and is still supplying products and services for this industry. Roborigger inherits this breadth of experience and longevity – we are here for the long haul.
Our focus is now on developing our manufacturing and support capabilities worldwide. We need people who enjoy the challenge of walking on new ground with new ideas and implementing systems that achieve the highest standards in efficient ways. We are currently in the process of moving into a new factory in Wangara, WA and this would be an opportunity for a newly appointed Lead Electrical and Controls Engineer to participate in the efficient set up of this new workshop.
About the role
We are looking for an Electrical, Electronics and Controls Engineer who can lead our team to support the product development, manufacture and support of Roborigger products. These include Roborigger systems and modular controllers, wireless remote-controlled hooks and data capture devices including cameras and scanners.
You will be working alongside a team of highly technical mechanical, electrical and mechatronic engineers supported by our research and industry alliance with Curtin University, NERA, CORE Innovation Hub, and METS Ignited.
You will be responsible for the onboard electrical and control systems of Roborigger, covering:
Onboard microcontroller and software
Onboard IoT system and computer
Electrical systems
New product development
You will have the ability to oversee the above systems with a high level of expertise in at least one of the areas and strong knowledge in other areas.
Onboard micro-controller and software
Must have a good up to date knowledge of available microprocessors and the industry standards for software programming.
Have a good understanding of sensor interfaces and hardware design issues for interfaces in order to achieve high reliability.
Understand process for testing and verification of components in a small production environment.
Onboard IoT system and computer
Must understand AI systems and image recognition as required for identifying loads, and personnel underneath Roborigger and also be able to lead system development.
Must be up to date with available AI hardware solutions for edge devices and able to select, specify and manage implementation of new processor platform, sensors and interfaces.
Must be able to manage the development of the IoT interface; including aspects of communication, security, remote updates, reliability etc.
Managing development of sensor algorithms to improve reliability of lift detection
New product development
Understand state of the art technology such as LoRa, HaLow and radio communications.
Lead team to develop in-house long range remote control.
Overall, you will define the procurement, assembly and testing processes so the manufacturing process for Roborigger can be fast and reliable, as well as to allow sub-assemblies to be pretested prior to installation on Roborigger.
Where you will be working
The work will be generally located at our assembly and service facility in Wangara, WA. The work will also involve visits to sites when supporting the equipment.
About you
You will have an electrical, electronics or mechatronic qualification as well as a minimum of 5 years' experience in an environment where electronic components were manufactured and tested and where high quality standards were demanded. You will be able to lead and interface with a multi-disciplined team and manage the overall development of the electrical, electronic and control aspects of Roborigger products. Your skills include but are not limited to:
Design and manufacture of custom electronics products
IoT edge device software and hardware
Electrical knowledge covering motor and motor control
Achieving CE and other overseas certification
